Description:
BRITISH Antique JOHN BLANCH & SON 12 Gauge Double Barrel Percussion SHOTGUN

ENGRAVED Shotgun Likely Imported to the U.S.

Here we present an antique British John Blanch & Son Double Barrel Side by Side Percussion Shotgun, manufactured circa the mid-1800s in London, England. This maker was a maker of fine quality guns working out of his shop at 60 Grace Church Street in London. This shotgun could likely have been imported to the U.S. during the antebellum era just prior to the American Civil War.

During this era, there were many English and Belgian gunmakers who were capitalizing on the eager markets in the United States. This 12 gauge shotgun was made in a great gauge to go after high flying geese and ducks. Its mid-length 33-1/2 inch barrel made for easy hunting in the dense woods or traipsing through the marsh looking for ducks and geese. This would have been a staple of most homesteads hanging over the mantle during the tumultuous times of the mid-1800s. Its primary purpose would have been for putting food on the table or preventing unwanted aggression against the homestead.

Original Plum patina. The stock is solid with a large repair in front of the lock, as well as a stable crack at the front of the comb. Strong action. Dim, smooth bores. Clear markings and defined engravings. Worn checkering on the wrist.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
