This Custom Springfield 1903, chambered in 30-06 barreled by Wallack and Holmes out of Mayfield , NY, and Engraved by John E Warren remains in Excellent condition. A kind collector pointed out that this rifle had several Hallmarks of being Stocked by Thomas Shelhamer, upon further investigation it was, it bears Tom's stamp and also the number 1161 under the buttplate.
Wallack was a noted for for his metal smithing and was a Benchrest champion, Holmes was very well regarded for his stock making, the inletting and fit and finish/ checkering on the stock are very well executed to exacting stnadards. John E warren was a very well regarded engraver and gunsmith in his own right. The bottom of the trigger guard bow is engraved With the Initials W P for Warren Page., The bore on this rifle is excellent, there are only a few very light handling marks present on the stock, the bluing shows a tiny bit of thinning on the front barrel band (probably from being rested in racks of the years. The rear peep sight and aperature are in the trap door butt, and a barrel hood is in the engraved trapdoor grip cap.
