Description: General Specs: Winchester, 1937, .348WCF, 8lbs. 3oz., LOP 13 3/8" Serial Number: 9054 Here we have a Pre-War unmolested and honest Winchester Model 71 Deluxe Rifle, complete with the factory sling swivels, and Winchester Model 98A Factory installed bolt peep sight, 98% factory blue on the barrel and mag tube, 96% factory blue on the receiver, 85% blue on lever and hammer 95%, 98% blue on the long tang, and factory checkering in very good condition. The Model 71 was basically a continuation of the Model 1886, with the same action, but the addition of the pistol grip butt stock and beavertail style forend. Manufactured from 1935 until 1958, the Model 71 was produced in .348 Winchester caliber only; the Deluxe or “Special Model” as labeled by Winchester having checkered wood, capped pistol grip, and sling swivels integral to the forend cap, the rear sling eye has the standard two screw install. This example, serial number 9054 made in 1937, is a great example of a pre-war, long tang 71 Deluxe Rifle as it has perfect mechanics, and the bolt peep. The long tang was discontinued in late 1937 to early 1938, so there are very few Model 71’s with the desirable long tang. The 24″ round barrel has the Pre-War style machined and integral front ramp, the bore is a 9.5/10 mirror with sharp rifling. This 1937 rifle is not factory drilled or tapped for a side mounted receiver sight as the later Model 71’s were, Standard 2/3 length magazine tube that holds 4 cartridges. The gun has been carried afield and has some silvering on the lower receiver indicating a life well spent. The wood has its share of field marks but the history of the rifle is seen in its marks- and this gun shows it’s an honest and well-maintained work horse, it was no safe queen and likely spent decades putting meat on the table. These pre-war, long tang Deluxe Model 71’s are a great investment Winchester, and great rifles to go after big game. The Winchester .348 is a great mid-range caliber, shooting a 200-grain slug at a velocity of around 2500 fps. for plenty of brush bucking stopping power. The ammunition is still available on the internet at ://hendershots/product/348-winchester-extreme-custom-ammo/ The trigger is crisp, breaking at 4.6lbs. and the rifling is clean, sharp, and mirror shiny. When you look at this gun compared to other guns being offered, along with high percentage of factory blue, correct sights, and no pits, this is a great gun for the money. It would be hard to find a more honest Model 71 Deluxe with all these goodies and at this price. See the photographs and specification bellow. Thanks for looking.
