Boston Made Long Arm for the Frontier
Here we present an antique William Read Rifle, made circa the mid-19th Century in Boston, Massachusetts. This piece features a half-length stock with a wooden rib for the ramrod along the underside of the barrel. Rifle sights. Round barrel in .52 caliber with micro-groove type rifling. This would have been a very workmanlike gun for the homestead or frontier in the mid-19th Century.
The overall condition is very good. Stock shows use and there is an old and subtle repair just above the lock. The original finish has darkened. Legible markings. The bore still bears the micro-groove rifling and a natural patina. Crisp action.
