Antique BROWN MANUFACTURING Co. .41 Rimfire “SOUTHERNER” Deringer Serial # 3710. Antique Brown Manufacturing Company and Merrimack Arms Company , Newburyport, Massachusetts. “Southerner” Deringer . made 1866-1873 Total quantity produced estimated at 16,500
Condition: .41 Rimfire with a 2 ½” octagon barrel that pivots sideways to load. Very nice bore with some light pin-prick pitting from black powder use but still showing strong rifling. Extractor is present . The barrel bluing is all but gone, leaving the metal finish an attractive gun metal gray. Brass frame is in nice condition with minimum wear and handling marks. Barrel markings are clear and legible with serial numbers located on the bottom of the barrel and butt frame. 2 piece walnut grips are in good condition still retaining most of the original varnish with minor wear , handling marks and are numbered to the gun. The action appears to work very well with a strong hammer spring in half-cock position and full-cock position. Please judge the overall appearance and condition from the photos and text.
