Description:
INTERWAR Era Mfg. CZECH ARMY 9mm Kurz CZ vz. M24 SEMI-AUTO Pistol C&R WW II

Pre-GERMAN OCCUPATION 380 Auto MODEL 24

Here we present a C&R Pre-German Occupation CZ vz. 24 Semi-automatic Pistol, made circa the interwar era with a production run between 1925 and 1938 in Prague, Czechoslovakia. The Pistole vz. 24, or Pistol Model 24, was the standard Czech Army pistol of the inter-war period between World War I and World War II. It was an improved version of the pistole vz. 22, which had been licensed from Mauser. This was the predecessor to the successful CZ Model 27.

In August of 1925, the first 200 CZ vz. 24s were delivered for acceptance testing and subsequently approved, with the secretary of the testing commission praising the weapon: "I consider this weapon, after removal of the defects which were found, to be fully adequate for its purpose, combat at close range." While the vz. 24 was produced at an acceptable rate, deliveries were still late. An order for 20,000 pistols ordered for the army was expected to be completed by December of 1924, but was only completed in June 1926. An order of 100,000 additional pistols were to be delivered between 1924 and 1928, and were delivered between August 1925 and December 1931. Reportedly, there were about 172,000 total pistols were built from 1925 to 1938.

In 1938, Hitler’s Germany formally occupied the northern and western sections of Czechoslovakia encompassing the Czech border defenses in these areas. The occupation grew from there into 1939 until all of Czechoslovakia was partitioned and basically ceased to exist. The German occupation would last until the final days of World War II in 1945 when they were liberated by the Soviet Union.

During the time of the German occupation, Czech military factories fell under the control of the invading power. As with other quality, useful, foreign originated military goods falling under the control of the Germans, the vz. 27 was adopted by the German Army service to shore up weak stocks of weapons. The vz. 27 proved its worth through general reliability, ease of handling, and most importantly, ease of production. This led to large stocks of pistols being produced directly for German use.

The Model 27 was adopted by the Third Reich upon their seizure of ?eská zbrojovka after their invasion and occupation in 1939. Many of these semi-automatic, .32 ACP/7.65mm blowback pistols were manufactured until the end of the war, becoming somewhat less finished toward the end in an attempt to save on cost, time and resources. The machining marks grew more visible, and the blue applied to the earlier guns was changed to a phosphate finish. Many of these were put in the hands of officers and police during World War II.

The overall condition is fine. Original finish has been mostly preserved. Excellent action. The bore is shiny bright with crisp rifling. Solid grip. Markings are legible. Numbers match. This example has a “P. Mod 27” magazine.
