Description: This is an original Civil War 1864 production model 1860 Henry rifle made by the New Haven Arms Company, which was renamed to the Winchester Repeating Arms Company in 1866. Brass frame has a pleasing dark patina to it. The barrel retains a pleasing patina overall with sharp markings. Unfortunately, it would appear that there was a buckhorn style rear sight of some kind installed on this gun at some point which resulted in 2 holes in the barrel address, one with a blank in it and the other with a screw. Some pitting on the exterior of the muzzle. Fine mechanical function. THe bore shows wear with strong rifling and some pitting. The rear sight is a reproduction, the follower and spring are possible reproductions as well. The stock is very good with some dings and handling marks, was sanded and cleaned a long time ago and is no longer proud to the metal fit. Original sling swivels in the stock and barrel. The barrel, screws, buttplate, stock, and lower tang are all matching. The rear most tang screw on the top is a replacement, the rear lower tang screw appears to have been cut off. There's a bit of a ding in the magazine tube that does not affect function. All in all, a very solid and presentable Henry rifle that almost certainly went off to war. Of note, according to Wiley Swords book, The Historic Henry Rifle, serial number 4615 is identified to Lt Freman of the MIssouri Volunteer Militia and is only 9 numbers after this gun. Made in April of 1864. This gun originally turned up in 1990 in Edwards, Missouri, so the connection isn't that far fetched (the original 1990 dated bill of sale is included). There were both Union and Confederate units operating ouf of MO during the Civil War. The cleaning rods are NOT present. Serial number is 4606 ANTIQUE! Buyer pays $250 shipping CONUS, including full insurance and tracking. AK & HI are extra. We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express, checks, and money orders.
