This type of pistol was very popular from the 18th and into the mid-19th Centuries in the United States, as well as Europe that features an octagon barrel that would have been worn on the belt or holstered as it was possibly carried into battle after being privately purchased. It was likely made primarily for self-defense, especially in cities or traveling around the countryside. This pistol is large enough to make someone think twice before bothering the carrier.
