This rifle features the early undated lock markings of a large US over H. DERINGER over PHILADA in 3 lines which appeared on approximately the firtst 4,000 Deringer rifles delivered. This is a 100 percent original as manufactured flintlock example with alll of its original and complete lock parts and is mechanically perfect. The original full length 36 & 1/16 inch barrel is still in its original flintlock configuration with a fine unmolested touch hole. The breech of the barrel is stamped 'P/US' and 'GF' for inspector George Flegel. The caliber is .54, rifled with 7 narrow grooves and the bore is in fine condition with clean strong rifling the length of the bore. The full lenth wallnut stock is in very fone condition with original oil finish and shows no cracks or other damage and no signs of having been sanded or refinished. It still retains a legible 'V' over 'GF' inspection stamp on the left flat. The rifle retains its original full length ramrod, sling swivels, rear sight, and original screws all in fine shape. The front sight may be an old replacement of the correct style. All of the iron parts are a dull gunmetal gray color with spots of black tarnish and staining the length of the barrel to indicate it has not been cleaned, polished or artificially aged. Inside the patchbox is a U shaped tool, an unused lead flint wrap, and extra flint. Many of these rifles were later converted to percussion or show more modern day reconversion to flintlock. This one is in hard to find original untouched flintlock configuration ready to add to your US martial longarms collection with no repairs or restoration work needed. Price: $4,200.00 Antique: Yes |
