Ruger M77 – 338 Win Mag – 24" Barrel – 1984 Model – Very Nice!
The Ruger M77 models are very attractive rifles but they’re much more than just lookers. Their Mauser-style design, deserved reputation for reliability, durability and well-documented accuracy makes them workhorses as well. Really nice looking workhorses. Our rifle wears serial number 79-53160 and Ruger reports that it was manufactured in 1984.
It‚s chambered for the powerful but versatile 338 Win Mag cartridge. This caliber is a strong choice for elk, moose and bears. It maintains good long range energy and is flat shooting round. Add to that the fact that you can run bullet weights from about 185 grain to 300 grain and you’ve got a lot of versatility to shoot ammo that’s specific for what you’re hunting.
The 24 inch barrel on this rifle was manufactured without sights, which was not uncommon. The current owner has a Tasco 1.75-5x20 scope mounted on it at present. This is an older model scope and relatively inexpensive. The scope likely does not add value to the rifle but you do have something already mounted to let you put those first rounds downrange.
The action of the bolt is very smooth. The trigger has no takeup and a clean break. A tang safety is easily reached with your thumb.
The stock is a checkered pistol grip type with a black cap containing the Ruger medallion at the end of the grip. The stock ends in a red rubber recoil pad.
The wood is in Very Good condition with light scratches and scuffs but no major defects. The Remington recoil pad is in Excellent condition. The metal finish is Very Good with a couple of small scratches on the barrel. We’ve tried to show those in the photos. The floor plate and trigger guard are in Excellent condition.
If you want the ability to take big game when you want and you want to look good while you’re doing it, this M77 may be just what you need!
