Description: A well-appointed William Evans 12-bore boxlock ejector, built on a best quality action supplied by Webley & Scott. The action is fitted with intercepting safety sears, a feature typically found on high-grade doubles. It also includes a third bite fastener via a dolls head rib extension, built on the Webley & Brain patent screw grip of 1882. These higher-grade actions were described by Scott themselves as having "extra best quality and finish throughout," and were priced at £50 in 1914, compared to just £18 for a grade 3 Webley action—a significant premium at the time. William Evans traded under the style "William Evans (From Purdey's)," which was not uncommon, as many gunmakers referenced their famous former employers in their advertising. This particular example features 28" barrels, Nitro proofed for 1 1/8oz, with clean bores that ring clear. Wall thickness is excellent, with both bores measuring over 30 thou. The barrels are on face and tight to the action, with mechanics that remain smooth and precise. The gun has a neutral cast, making it suitable for both right- and left-handed shooters. Cosmetically, the gun exhibits near full-coverage border and floral engraving, all in excellent condition. A classy boxlock, built with best quality adornment and features.
