Description:
NSN, .81 Caliber, 42 1/2" barrel with a fair, pitted bore. This is an interesting musket that has an overall dark plum patina on the barrel and lock, with thin freckling at the muzzle that transitions to light pitting, then heavier pitting at the breech, nipple bolster, and lock. British commercial proofs are still visible on the barrel breech, but there are no discernible maker or ordnance markings to be seen on the lockplate. The pin-fastened, Brown Bess style stock has minor handling marks and small surface blemishes throughout, with wear through the varnish in some spots around the barrel tang, and under the hammer. The brass ramrod thimbles, trigger guard, sideplate, and buttplate have a dull and dark brown-ochre patina with some brighter areas on the edges and projections. Both the sling swivels are no longer present, and a period, button-tipped iron ramrod is included. The lock does not catch at full-cock. This is a great looking "attic find" musket, and would make a great decorative accent for a rustic-themed home. Antique;
