Special focus on custom contemporary muzzleloading rifles and black powder cartridge rifles. Description: This is one of only 344 Springfield Model 1847 Cavalry Carbines that were rifled and sighted at Frankfort Arsenal in 1859. Originally, it was equipped with a saddle ring bar on left side. The attachment points were later modified by filling screw hole in side plate and removing the brazed on stud from barrel band. This modification was professionally done, indicating that it may have been transferred to an Artillery unit or cadets. Other than that, it has all if the correct features such as the chain retained ramrod retainer. Like most examples encountered, this ones barrel has a bright pewtered finish. The rifled bore is bright and shiny with scattered light pitting. Three leaf rear sight is intact. The lock and tang both dated 1848. Breech stamped VP over Eagle. Buttplate stamped US and rack number 30. Stock in excellent antique condition, with numerous small bumps and scratches typical of a 175 year old military rifle. A great example of a scarce US military carbine. $3500 + SHIPPING. Price: $3,500.00 |
