Description:
General Specs: Wallis & Skemptons, pre-1954, 16 Gauge, 5lbs. 10oz., Chokes IC/LM, LOP 14 3/8", DAH 2 7/16", DAC 1 9/16"
Serial Number:  8138

The British gunmakers from the first half of the 1900’s were known to produce well balanced, hand-fitted, engraved, and checkered double guns that are/were the measure by which all others were measured.  Some were known to be a step above the competition, and the gunsmiths at Wallis & Skemptons Ltd acquired the reputation of producing highly finished, mechanically superb boxlock ejector side x sides.  Here we have a splendid example in the hard-to-find 16-gauge gun built sometime before 1954 based on the proof marks.  This gun is not an economy model with scant engraving and plain wood…this gun exhibits 75% coverage of fine, hand-cut English scroll, near exhibition figured walnut with deep, dark smoky streaks, profuse hand checkering, and superb wood to metal fit.  The 26” barrels are choked IC/LM for the perfect upland chokes, with tight smooth concave game rib, mirror shiny bores, and proofed for 2 ½” one-ounce loads (the gun is in proof and we have lots of RST 2 ½” 16ga. loads.  That said, if you wish to open the chambers and lengthen the forcing cones there is plenty of wall thickness to safely do so for an extra gunsmithing fee).  The barrels are tight on hinge and breech face, ribs are tight, and the bluing is 99% rich dark blue.  The action retains 80% factory case color and the mechanics are excellent, with strong well-timed ejectors, crisp triggers, and excellent screws.  THIS FINE EXAMPLE OF A BRITISH DOUBLE WEIGHS JUST 5LBS. 10OZ. AND BALANCES PERFECTLY 1/8” AHEAD OF THE HINGE PIN FOR A TRULY DYNAMIC HANDLING UPLAND WAND.  Examine the photos closely and you will see we provide all the views of this gun you need to see to understand the quality of this firearm.  We are a storefront operation with 5 full-time gunsmiths, and we always thoroughly inspect our guns before offering them for sale.  Each gun has at least a 30-day mechanical warranty.  When you combine the quality photos with the full specifications in the tables below you will know what you are buying in advance and eliminate the risk inherent in buying guns from unknown sellers and long distances.  Just in time for summer clays before the fast-approaching upland bird season…don’t let this one get away, call now!  Thanks for looking.
