Description: Taylor’s & Co. is well-known for their reproductions of famous firearms from the Old West. The Winchester Model of 1873 is one of the most famous from that period in U.S. history. The 1873 was built around the concept of a rifle being chambered for the same ammunition as the owner’s pistol, usually the .44-40 Winchester cartridge. This feature had multiple advantages, not least of which was the owner of the two guns having to carry only round. This also helped to reduce the overall weight of the ammunition carried as well as allowing the owner to carry more rounds, an important consideration when traveling between distant towns with little chance of finding a store to restock on ammo in between. In recent times, with the rise in popularity of Cowboy action shooting, new 1873 rifles are available in more modern cartridges, as well as the original .44-40. The Model 1873 shown here is a very special version made especially for Cowboy Action Shooting. Known as the Comanchero, the rifle has seen an action package performed by a Taylor’s gunsmith. This results in a lever operation that is butter smooth. It also allows for a faster rate of fire. For extra comfort, the Comanchero features a buckskin butt cover and lever wrap. Comanchero shown here is a slightly older version with the 18-inch half round/half octagon barrel. The newer versions use a 19-inch round barrel. The Comanchero’s magazine tube provides the user with a 10-round capacity. Sights consist of Buckhorn rear sight and gold bead front. The wood forearm and buttstock possess a beautiful finish. The metal finish, depending on upon the part, is either blued or color case hardened. This Comanchero is used but is in great shape, with only a few signs of wear. The lower left screw on the bottom of the receiver is slightly buggered. In addition to minor handling wear, there is a small imperfection in the finish on the bottom of the forend near the metal cap. The bore is in superb shape. The rifle comes with a nice saddle scabbard. The 1873 Comanchero is a fine rifle and probably one of the best lever actions available on the market. If you are a lever action fan do not pass up the opportunity to own one of these rifles. Price: $1,875.00 Handgun Caliber: .38 Long Colt, .38 Special, .357 Magnum Manufacturer: Taylor's & Co.
