Scarce original correct Model 1870 US Springfield 50-70 Army Rifle. This is a true model 1870 (not a more common model 1868). The breach block is marked Model 1870 with the rear sight 3/8" from the receiver and no serial number. The metal has a smooth dark patina with scattered light pitting. The but plate has pitting. The correctly marked lock functions fine. The full 2 band very good dark walnut stock has both cartouches and scattered dents and handling marks. The clean bore shows rifling with scattered pitting.
