AMERICAN .45 Cal. Similar to the “Kentucky” Pistol
Here we present antique American Percussion Pistol, manufactured in the mid-19th Century. This type of pistol was very popular from the 18th and into the mid-19th Centuries in the United States, as well as Europe that features a large .45 caliber bore with an octagon barrel that would have been worn on the belt or holstered as it was possibly carried into battle after being privately purchased. This is a neat old pistol and one can easily imagine the sight of its bore would certainly be a deterrent to would be scoundrels.
It was likely made primarily for self-defense, especially in cities or traveling around the countryside. This pistol is large enough to make someone think twice before bothering the carrier. The lock is lightly engraved with a scroll motif. The tiger maple stock has an attractive finish, which is both practical and aesthetically pleasing.
The overall condition is good. Strong action. Good bore for its age. Solid stock with average wear and has been re-oiled. Some chipping is present near the muzzle end of the forend. The lock is engraved with “”GOLCHER/ARANTED”. A hand caved “M” is present on the butt of the grip. A stable and thin grain split is present to the front of the trigger guard tang.
