This is a rare USMC-issued Colt Model 1905 DA Revolver, chambered in .38 Caliber. There were 812 1905 Revolvers made for the Marine Corps during it's short existence. It was part of the evolution of the M1892 DA revolver except that it had a special round butt frame and special diamond checkered grips that were special requests of the Marines. The butt is factory marked "U.S.M.C." over the serial number "No 761". The factory assembly number "554" is stamped inside the frame and on the yoke. It has retained roughly 80-85% of its original finish. The cylinder locks up tight and the trigger functions perfectly in both SA and DA. The original wood grips are in very good condition with some wear but are in overall very good condition. There is a “W” carved into to left grip. This is a very fine example of a rare and all original USMC firearm. This pistol comes with a Colt factory letter authenticating the gun to a shipment of November 14, 1908 Philadelphia, PA Depot Quartermaster US Government.
