A US Springfield Krag model 1896. Late 1896 production. Serial # 1075xx, 30/40 Cal. Excellent mechanicaly. All features function as the should. Bright bore, without pitting, some frosting last 3" of bore. Throat =1, Muzzel 50%.Original attractive metal finishes. Turning an attractive plumb. The stock is a handsome Walnut, in good condition without cracks ( the chip on the left butt plate side was caused by the soldier coming to attention). Otherwise the stock shows handling and use marks only. The stock has a faint but readable 1897 cartouche.This 1896 was correctly arsenal updated with the more accurate 1901 sight. This serial number range was likely issued to the famous 20th Kansas, who fought the Phillipine Morro Rebels or the2nd Artilery that fought in Cuba. Complete with a 3 piece cleaning rod set and nickle oiler in the butt trap compartment. An original and correct 1896 krag for your collection and shooting pleasure. Seldom seen in this condition and in a historic serial number range. An investment grade Krag.
