Description:
Guns Listing ID: 547793

Unusual percussion carbine with Confederate attribution. The overall length is approximately 34". The approximately 18¾" round .70 caliber barrel has a fine smooth bore. The barrel has a “B" within a border, 12, 84, and a touchmarks stamped on it. The lock, which was originally flint, is unmarked. Most small parts have a crown with a “T" within it inspection stamp. The barrel and sling bar are bright with light staining. The lock has approximately 50% case colors. The brass nose cap, trigger guard, and butt plate are fine. The stock is very good with an old chip at the top front of the lock. The 12" sling bar extends about 2½" to the rear and then forward to an iron barrel band than encircles the brass nosecap. The rear sight is a rounded block “V" at the front of the barrel tang. The large bolster, with cleanout screw, protrudes approximately ¾" from the barrel. The ramrod is present. While we’re not certain, this carbine has an Austrian/Germanic look to it. The action functions correctly. There are two old labels on the left butt stock. The first approximately 1"x 4½", is in script and is unreadable to us. The second, approximately 2"x 3", is typewritten in German and Swedish. Loosely translated, it appears to read “Carbine taken from Confederate Army during the American Civil War. Purchased in Baltimore from Captain F. Milratz . Sterbhuset A. Bergman". This very interesting carbine is deserving of further research. (AL5221)
