Description:
The Model 1875 was Remington's first production revolver that used metallic cartridges. 25,000 to 30,000 Model 1875 revolvers were manufactured from 1874 to 1889. Most were nickel plated.  It held six rounds and was sold in three different calibers; the .44 Remington, the .44 WCF (which is the .44-40 Winchester), and the .45 Colt.

The Remington Model 1875 revolver presented here is chambered in .44-40, as evidenced by the "44" stamped on the left side of the frame just ahead of the cyliinder.  It has nickel plating, walnut grips, a crisp trigger pull and locks up tightly. The revolver appears to function properly, although the seller has not fired it. Other markings include the batch number, "194", stamped on the frame under the left grip, and the letter "G" on the frame under the right grip.  The top of the barrel is stamped "E. Remington & Sons, Ilion, N.Y. U.S.A.".  There are no other visible markings.

As can be seen in the pictures, the nickel plating is in excellent condition with no flaking or pitting and only minor holster wear at the muzzle and on the cylinder.  The cylinder chambers are clean with no pitting.  The 7.5 inch barrel is bright with sharping rifling.  The nicely finished walnut grips are in excellent condition with minor scratches but no cracks or chips.  This revolver was made without a lanyard ring.

The only issue the seller is aware of is the tip of the cylinder pin retention spring is broken off.  However, the retention spring can be depressed with the a pointed tool, such as the tip of a ballpoint pen, and then slid forward allowing the cylinder to be removed.  One of the pictures shows the end of the cylinder pin with the tip of the retention spring.

Included with this revolver is an original tooled leather western holster.  The leather is still in great condition with a nice patina befitting its age.  It is a great addition to this fine revolver.  You can almost see it hanging on Frank James' gun belt!  The holster alone is worth $200 but is included in the price of this revolver.

Having been made before 1899, this qualifies as an antique revolver and can be shipped directly to the buyer's home. This Model 1875 revolver is being sold as a collector's piece, only.  Although it appears to be in excellent condition, it is 140 years old.  This seller has not fired it and cannot attest to the safety of this revolver.  As such, this seller cannot be responsible for any injuries or damage that may result from the revolver's use. By buying this handgun, the purchaser agrees to hold the seller harmless against damage, injury, or death caused by its use. If the buyer wishes to shoot this revolver, he/she should have it first inspected by a competent gunsmith to make sure it is safe to do so.
