Payment Types Accepted: checks, cashiers/bank check, money order Description: UNUSUAL 1885 LOWALL CUSTOM SCHUETZEN SINGLE SHOT RIFLE. This rifle was made on the “Lowall” action with early “Highwall” breech block. It was made in .22-3000 (2-R Lovell) caliber which is simply the .25-20 Single Shot case necked to .22 caliber. It was a popular cartridge before the more modern cartridges like .222 Rem. arrived. The butt stock is of very high grade walnut and has the large sweeping cheek rest with accent line often found on Schuetzen stocks. It is also has a case colored pronged butt plate. The forend has a schnable tip and is fitted with a palm rest with case colored fittings. Both stock and forend are nicely checkered. The action is high polish blued and has a single set trigger that functions correctly. The rifle is also fitted with a Marbles tang sight and ramped front sight with Lyman globe that will accept inserts. The heavy 28” octagon No. 4 weight Winchester marked barrel has the top three flats matted. The rear sight dovetail has a blank filler and scope blocks are mounted with approx. 7 ¾” center to center spacing. The Winchester markings are on the left side of the barrel as well as the original caliber stamping .32-40. The caliber stamping is under the forearm. One can assume this barrel was relined. There is also some light script writing on the left side of the barrel just above the forend that is hard to make out, but appears to indicate a builder named Holmes from Mountvale, N.J. (?). Wood and blue is excellent, action is tight, bore is bright and excellent. Lots of potential in this one to rechamber- maybe to .219 Zipper- or to rebore etc. Or just leave as is. A lot of money and time went into this one! Price: $1,950.00 Antique: Yes Rifle Caliber: .22-3000 Lovell Manufacturer: WINCHESTER Model: CUSTOM LOWALL Serial Number: N/A Barrel Length: 28" HEAVY OCT.
