Sharp and crisp floral engraving, beautiful bluing and loads of residual case coloring. Nicely figured European walnut. Wilkes number 4594 was made in 1902. An upland wand that’s easy to carry for a day afield at 5lb 8oz. The 28” nitro steel barrels have a top extension and are chambered for 2-1/2” shotshells. They are Birmingham proofed for the standard 7/8oz load. Rumors to the contrary notwithstanding, low pressure 2-1/2” cartridges are readily available in the US from ARMUSA, Game Bore, and RST Shells. The barrels are topped by a raised solid concave tapered rib which is inscribed “ John Wilkes. 21 Broad Street. Golden Square. London W.” The right barrel us bored 0.607 with a constriction of 0.003 for Cylinder choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.028. The left barrel is bored 0.607 and has a constriction of 0.009 for Improved Cylinder choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.028. The straight grip stock and splinter forearm are made of nicely figured European walnut and have a good finish and crisp checkering. Stock dimensions are 14-1/8” including a 3/4 inch recoil pad by 1-3/8” by 2”. Cast off for the right hand shot. It is said that the greatest shotgun value to be had is a British boxlock. They have the same great handling characteristic as their sidelock cousins at a fraction of the cost. *** Please note that the photographs are part of the description.
