Description:
The #289 Collins was introduced in 1858, more of a short sword than a machete.  The blade measures 18" long by 1 1/4" wide with false edge spearpoint and brass crossguard(guard has a little back and forth movement-its probably earned it-otherwise rock solid).  Corrugated leather stacked handle measures 4 1/2" and is brass mounted.  Blade has darkened over time but all stamps are highly legible with no nicks or chips.  Very little if any sharpening.  The original #5 sheath accompanies this knife and is in pristine condition.  Perfect stitching with Collins Logo and natural finish.  Leather is supple and made for a 3" belt.  This is a rare blade in ultra rare condition.
