Cased Stephen Grant 12 bore pair of side lever hammer game guns with 30” Damascus barrels. Gun 1 is choked skeet in both barrels while gun 2 is choked skeet and cylinder. Length of pull of 14 ¼” to a checkered butt with engraved heel and toe clips.
Straight English stock, double triggers on a round bar action with backaction locks, rebounding hammers, springed nipples, extractor, slightly raised concave rib with a small brass front bead, checkered wrist (wraparound) and forend with mullered borders, Anson push button forend release, engraved gold ovals on the toe line, heel clip with a widow’s peak. Numbers “1” and “2” engraved on the barrels, bottom strap, and forend iron to distinguish the two guns. The guns are housed in a maker’s brass cornered oak and leather case with some accessories. These circa late 1870s guns were reproofed in London in 1993 with 2 ½” chambers. The chambers measure 2 ¾”.
Small scroll engraving embellishes the silvered action and blued furniture. Exhibition grade walnut stocks on both guns. The guns remain in excellent overall condition. The stock and checkering remain near perfect as refinished other than a crack in the wrist of gun 1 which would merit attention. Excellent bores and browning on the Damascus barrels though not much pattern visible. Both guns are on face.
