This is a very handsome example with the brass barrel and fittings having a mellow, yellow-ochre patina throughout. The barrel has an octagonal breech with a wedding band transition to round, and is tastefully embellished with small engraved geometric designs, and has a large "LONDON" marking on the top flat. The lock has a freckledpewter gray patina, with numerous small marks and surface blemishes, as well as a faint, partially legible maker’s name: "I / SMI(TH?)." The pin-fastened walnut stock has numerous handling marks and small blemishes scattered about the thick, added lacquered finish. There is a large, professionally repaired crack at the back rearward tip of the lockplate. The stock was not broken all the way through and the crack and stock are very stable. An original horn-tipped ramrod is still present, and the lock is still firm and fully functional. This is a very good example of a British flintlock blunderbuss, and would make a splendid addition to any collection. Antique; Price: $3,995.00 Antique: Yes |
