Description: General Specs: Smith & Wesson, 1973, .44 MAGNUM, 51oz., Barrel 8 3/8" Serial Number: N129433 Needing little introduction, the Smith & Wesson Model 29 is one of the most iconic guns ever made. At the time of its release the Smith & Wesson Model 29 was the most powerful handgun on the market. It remained a weapon used primarily by hunters and law enforcement officers. All that changed in 1971 with the release of the movie Dirty Harry, with actor Clint Eastwood portraying Harry Callahan a tough no nonsense San Franciscan detective, Det Callahan carried the big Smith & Wesson N frame revolver! The movie was to become part of the American zeitgeist and propelled Eastwood and the S&W .44 Magnum to movie making legend. The .44 magnum revolver started production in 1955 and became the Model 29 in 1957. This example is a 29-2 variant. Serial number N129433 it was manufactured in1973, it is the last model 29 to have a pinned barrel and a counter bored cylinder. This revolver retains 99% factory finish, with a faint drag line on the cylinder. The gun appears to have had just a few cylinders worth of shells fired! Looks the pictures of the firing pin plate and the clean cylinder face. The Target trigger and hammer exhibit all their original case color. The comfortable target style grips show very little handling with the checking in perfect condition. This revolver has a the classic 8 3/8” barrel with solid rib, perfect bore and red ramp blade front sight and white outlined adjustable rear sight. Cocking the hammer on this gun is a satisfying combination of sound and mechanical perfection leading to a SA trigger break of 5lbs, DA is likewise smooth at 10lb. The wide target trigger making accurate pressure control easy. At some point in its history a careful collector added some fabric to cover the disintegrating blue liner of the case. The original plastic liner is still in place. Firing both .44 magnum and .44 special rounds, this handgun is all ready for a day at the range, so don’t wait long. It will, “make your day”.
