Description:
Joseph Lang & Son .470 Nitro Express double rifle. Serial 14644 is a wonderful London rifle refurbished by Turnbull about 15 years ago. Features include 26-inch barrels topped by a full-length matte rib with integral raised front ramp. The front sight itself has been filed fine for daylight duty, with the pop-up moon sight having seen service in low light as well as when closing on dangerous game. The dovetail-mounted rear sight has one fixed and two folding express leafs (marked 100/200/300), each with a sighting line. Additional features include double triggers, extractor, mechanical safety and a traditional (pancake) cheekpiece with shadow line. DIMENSIONS: Weight is 10.6 pounds. Length-of-pull is 15.0 inches with attached orange pad, and an included Pachmayr Old English pad would reduce LOP .50-inch if installed. Drops are 1.5 and 2.5 inches, and cast off is slight - approximately .20-inch. CONDITION: Barrels are tight on face. Bores are bright with light, uniform frosting. Extractor, triggers and safety all operate properly. Barrel, guard, opening lever, tang and grip cap blue all stand at about 97 percent, and markings remain strong. Action colors are rich and bright, with only the slightest handling evidenced in the clear sealing coat. Maker's name and engraving accents are sharp. Moon sight spring has weakened. Wood finish is about 97 percent as well and wood integrity is about 95 percent to account for the scattering of small scratches and field impressions. INCLUSIONS: Older takedown case with added maker's label and replacement straps is in worn condition. The price is firm and layaway is available. $20,000 plus shipping.
