Description:
Griffin & Howe .375 H&H Mag. Custom Rifle.

Based on Pre-'64 Model 70 action (s/n: 499xxx) with a reshaped tang, original 3-position safety and trigger, jewelled bolt body, magazine follower, and raceway, w/ G&H custom trigger guard w/ inside-the-bow release and the original Winchester floor plate. G&H style checkered and engraved bolt knob.

The factory drilled & tapped Win. action is fitted with Griffin & Howe's famous Quick Release Side Mount w/ 1" rings.

Original Winchester barrel barrel markings have been removed and the barrel has been cut to 22" and re-crowned. The original island rear sight has been stippled and has a G&H single standing Express sight lined in gold and engraved "100 yds".

The G&H banded foresight has a brass beaded blade and a missing removable sight hood. Barrel band forward sling swivel.

Top of barrel is engraved: "No. 2554 Griffin & Howe New York Ny, NY" (the repeated NY, NY correct for the period). The original Winchester "WP" proofmark is still present at the breech end of the barrel on the left side next to the same proofmark on the action.

G&H walnut stock with classic G&H shape and beaded cheekpiece for RH shooter, G&H smooth blued steel single screw tiered grip cap, blued and engraved single recoil bar, stud rear swivel on the stock's toe line, and a 13 1/2" LOP over a red Pachmayr Decelerator pad. G&H classic 22 lpi wrap borderless checkering on the grip and forend w/ an Ebony forend tip.

Rifle weighs 8 lbs. 12 oz. and remains in very good condition with much of the hand polished, blue finish G&H is regarded for. Bore remains perfect. The stock is also in good shape w/ a small chip behind the tang but no sign of cracking. Stock shows handling marks here or there, most notably, just under the bolt handle. Marks that I imagine were made in a safe and not a hunt.

Overall a very nice rifle from one of America's finest and most storied custom rifle makers.
