Description:
Griffin & Howe .375 Wby. Mag. Custom Rifle.

Based on a Pre-'64 Winchester Model 70 action (s/n: 324xxx) with a tang re-shaped to resemble a pre-war M70 "clover leaf" tang, original M70 3-position safety, G&H custom trigger guard that has an inside-the-bow release and the original Winchester "Super Grade" floor plate. A jewelled bolt body and magazine follower and a checkered band around the bolt knob. The factory drilled & tapped Win. action is fitted w/ Griffin & Howe's famous Quick Release Side Mount w/ 1" rings.

The factory Winchester barrel has been re-chambered to .375 Weatherby Magnum, cut to 23" and recrowned. The original Winchester barrel address and caliber marking has been removed but the bottom of the barrel sitll shows the factory stamps "375M" and a "54" date code.

The barrel has also been fitted with G&H's pattern quarter rib that is stippled and has 3 folding sight leaves all lined in gold and engraved w/ their resepctive distance (50, 100, 200 yds). Griffin & Howe's pattern banded/hooded front sight is also stippled w/ a brass beaded sight blade and the original removable sight hood with knurrled front. Barrel band forward sling swivel.

The top of the barrel is engraved: "No. 2400 Griffin & Howe Inc. New York, NY" and the original Winchester "WP" proofmark is still present on the left side of the barrel at the breech, next to the same proofmark still present on the action.

The walnut stock is in the classic G&H shape w/ a shadowline cheekpiece for the RH shooter, a 13 1/2" LOP over a red Noshoc recoil pad, a single blued and engraved recoil bar, a blued smooth steel single screw tiered grip cap, 22 lpi wrap checkering w/ mullered borders, and an Ebony forend tip, a sling stud and a stock oval engraved w/ the initials: "H L R" along the toe line of the stock. Stock has a wooden plug that properly fills a hole where a sling stud was mounted to the bottom of the stock's forend.

The rifle weighs 9 lbs.1 oz. and remains in very nice conditon retaining 98% of the G&H blue. Bore remains excellent. Rifle does not appear to have been hunted but carries scattered handling marks here or there. Retains nearly all of the original G&H hand rubbed oil finish.

This G&H rifle, No. 2400, pairs w/ a second G&H rifle we have listed seperately for sale. Rifle No. 2401 chambered for .35 Whelen.
