Another remarkable design from the mind of John Moses Browning, the 1892 was created to succeed the legendary and iconic 1873, featuring its popular pistol-caliber chambers. The result was a sleek, lightweight rifle that became an immediate hit, remaining in production for nearly 50 years. Many firearm enthusiasts appreciated Winchester rifles for their ability to fire the same ammunition as their pistols, allowing cowboys, trappers, and stagecoach defenders to carry just one type of ammo for both their rifle and sidearm. The Model 1892, like many Winchester firearms, gained widespread popularity when the television show “The Rifleman” debuted in 1958, starring Chuck Connors. Producers sought unique features to set their show apart, and the Rifleman's signature was a modified Winchester Model 1892. It featured a large-ring lever drilled and tapped for a set screw. This design enabled him to cock the rifle by spinning the lever around his hand. Additionally, the screw could be adjusted to depress the trigger each time he operated the lever, allowing for rapid fire—firing the entire magazine in under five seconds during the opening credits. In April 1919, Winchester eliminated the “18” and “19” from the model names of all of the various models that were in active production. So, after this date, the Model 1892 would have become the Model 92. The overall condition is very good. Many traces of original blue finish. Dark/gray patinas on the barrel and receiver. Bright, shiny bore and serviceable rifling. The action is strong. The stock and forend are very good. Legible markings throughout. Dented magazine tube toward the muzzle. Own the original!
