Description:
This is an unfired (except for testing at the Bravo Company factory) carbine with a 16 inch SOCOM (heavy) barrel. The upper is marked BCM4 on the front of the of the upper and the lower is marked on the left side of the magazine well. The top of the SOCOM-style barrel is marked 5.56 NATO for the chambering and 1/7 for the rifling twist. The front sight block is marked with the obligatory letter F, to show that it had been adjusted for the difference in height between mounting rear sights on old school fixed sight receivers and the more modern flat top receivers. In addition, this item is equipped with a flash hider, bayonet lug, “full auto” BCG, and charging handle, all factory new. The Colt SOCOM barrel was developed for the military due to M4 barrels then in service having problems with bursting just behind the FSB when submitted to sustained fire (full auto for an excessive period of time.) As for the added weight of the “heavy” barrel being an issue, based on statistics gathered online, the weight of a completely stripped Colt SOCOM barrel is about 2.07 ounces per inch and the weight of a completely stripped Colt M4 barrel is about 1.72 ounces to the inch, a difference of .35 ounces per inch. The BCM4 barrel is 16 inches long, multiplied by .35 ounces equals 5.6 ounces heavier than the M4 barrel, and with reportedly comparable or better accuracy. This rifle listing weighs 6.55 pounds unloaded, compared to a Colt M4A1 (shorter barrel) at 6.43 pounds empty. Please review the pictures, as they are an integral part of this description.
