Description:
Known to be one of Winchester's most popular side-by-side shotguns, the Model 23 was offered in a variety of gauges and trims. Many owners claim they are great field and target guns and they have generally held their value quite well, making them desirable for shooters and collectors alike. The Model 23 was made in Japan by Kodensha Co. Ltd. For the Olin Corporation—the then-owners of the Winchester Firearms brand—and sold for ten years, from 1978-1987. The shotgun is a boxlock construction with ejectors and single selectable trigger. Shotguns made at the end of production, after 1986, were the first production shotguns to utilize interchangeable choke tubes—the Win Chokes of the time. This shotgun is a Model 23 Pigeon Grade, standard weight, chambered in 12 gauge for 2 ¾" shells. It features a straight-grip English stock with fine checkering, long tang, and unique checkered wood buttplate. The barrels are joined by a solid grooved rib with single brass bead. The receiver features decorative scrollwork and is in fantastic condition. The watertable on this shotgun has a jeweled surface. The barrels have fixed chokes, with a modified left barrel and improved cylinder right barrel. The barrels ring fairly well, indicating good solder condition. This Model 23 is in great condition. The stock exhibits some light checking near the rear of the stock, but there are no cracks or major damages to the wood. The barrels and receivers are in very good cosmetic condition and the barrels have no rust or pitting. 12 Gauge
