In an effort to design the ultimate tack-driving rifle and squeeze the most accuracy possible out of the AR-15 platform, Springfield Armory offered the Saint Edge ATC rifle. This precision-oriented AR-15 features a monolithic lower receiver and handguard combination that removes all contact the rifle has with the barrel aside from where it is secured to the upper receiver and preventing any additional flex or pressure upon the barrel itself. The proprietary lower receiver features a large magwell with molding designed for stability when shooting offhand or from a rest, as well as M-lok mounting points for accessories and a picatinny rail for mounting a bipod. The upper half of the handguard also features a full-length picatinny rail on the top and M-lok mounting surfaces on the sides. The Saint Edge ATC is guaranteed by Springfield to shoot sub-MOA groupings out of its 18" Ballistic Advantage heavy barrel. The barrel is Melonite-coated and features a 1:7 twist rate, which favors loads heavier than 62 grains—light loads under 55 grains may not see such high performance as other options such as 68gr+ match loads. The barrel also features a standard 1/2x28 threading with a two-port muzzle brake installed on the rifle. The rifle features a tungsten-weight 'H' buffer and midlength gas system. Combined with the weight of the all-aluminum chassis, the Saint Edge ATC's recoil impulse is near negligible. The lower receiver is set up with Springfield Armory's Flat Modular Match trigger for a crisp, repeatable break with every shot. B5 Systems furniture rounds out the build with an Enhanced SOPMOD collapsible stock with wide cheekpiece and storage tubes and Type 23 pistol grip with aggressive stippling and more vertical grip angle. The Springfield Armory ATC rifle is truly meant to bridge the gap between dedicated precision rifle builds and the standardized AR-15 platform.
