This is a VERY RARE Smith and Wesson model 56 chambered in 38 special.
This revolver was manufactured for the US Air Force in the 60's, around 1500 were made and MOST were destroyed by the US Military. So, this revolver is one of the most rare variants ever made.
The pinned barrel is 2 inches long with a perfect bore.
It is a square butt, K frame, three screw revolver.
It was made in 1962-63 based on the 3rd Edition Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson.
This RARE batch of firearms start with serial number 500001 and end at 515205.
This is serial number K501489 and DOES have the US mark on the back strap.
It has a six shot fluted cylinder with checkered cylinder release.
The timing and lock up are perfect based on visual inspection.
The polished blue finish is in great shape, a few minor surface blems, nothing significant.
It has a case color hammer and trigger..
It has a serrated ramp front sight and adjustable rear sight.
It has 2-piece brown diamond checkered walnut grips with S&W emblems.
The grips have MATCHING NUMBERS on the underside and are in great condition.
This revolver qualifies as a curio and relic and can ship where legally allowed.
This revolver would make a great addition to any firearms collection.
