This is a VERY RARE Smith and Wesson model 11-4 chambered in 38 S&W 175gr, which is the British 38/200 caliber.
This revolver was manufactured for mainly the British Commonwealth countries.
This particular revolver is marked "S.A.P." on the back strap of the grip....indicating this is one of the VERY RARE South African Police variants.
This has a FACTORY LETTER stating that the British Commonwealth models were produced from 1945 to 1963 in very limited quantities. This was shipped from the factory to Butterfield and Butterfield house in San Francisco, CA. March 6, 1996. The letter states this was one of the VERY LAST Mode 11's produced in 1962.
The pinned barrel is 4 inches long with a perfect bore.
It is a square butt, K frame, five screw revolver.
The numbered models are VERY SCARCE, made between 1938 to 1965 based on the 3rd Edition Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson.
It has a six shot fluted cylinder with checkered cylinder release.
The timing and lock up are perfect based on visual inspection.
The blue finish is in fantastic shape, no wear..a couple light handle marks (very hard to find.)
It has a case color hammer and trigger..
It has a serrated ramp front sight and integrated notch rear sight.
It has 2-piece brown diamond checkered walnut grips with S&W emblems.
The grips have a non-matching number on the underside and are in great condition.
It comes in the correct Factory 2 piece box with correct end label and numbers on the bottom.
Also included is the unopened cleaning rod/brush, warranty card and TWO FACTORY LETTERS.
The two factory letters have the same model information with historical data stating this was shipped from the Smith and Wesson Collection to Butterfield and Butterfield house in 1996. One letter is dated January 10, 2008. The other factory letter is dated October 18, 1996.
This revolver qualifies as a curio and relic and can ship where legally allowed.
This revolver would make a great addition to any firearms collection.
