The Savage Model 1899 is legendary among lever-action enthusiasts - one of the few designs capable of handling pointed spitzer bullets safely thanks to its innovative rotary magazine system. According to Chuck Hawks (://chuckhawks/savage_99_rifles.html), the Model 1899 made Savage's reputation and was produced from 1899 to 1940, with the model number shortened to "Model 99" in 1920. The .303 Savage was the original chambering for the Model 1895 and remained popular throughout the 1899's production run. This early 1930s example represents peak pre-war craftsmanship with features like the cartridge counter visible through the receiver window, cocking indicator pin, and trigger safety.
