Description:
RUSSIAN CAPTURE German THIRD REICH Mauser BORSIGWALDE “243/1940” K98 Rifle

SCARCE WORLD WAR II with “X” Russian Capture Mark

Here we present a C&R “X” Marked Russian Captured German Third Reich Mauser Borsigwalde “243/1940” Code Model K98 Rifle manufactured in 1940. Mauser Borsigwalde was the Second Mauser Plant and was located in a suburb of Berlin. In 1898 the German Army purchased a Mauser design, the Model 98, which incorporated improvements introduced in earlier models. The weapon was originally chambered for the Patrone 88 and officially entered German service as the Gew. 98 on April 5, 1898. This remains by far the most successful of the Mauser designs, helped by the onset of two world wars that demanded vast numbers of rifles.

The date/code combination of this rifle is a very difficult one to locate and a collector of 98k’s knows that this is a hard to come by example, especially in good condition, as this one is. One has to ask, what history did this rifle see? Did it invade France or possibly Poland? Was it on the battlefield at D-Day? Here is a true hard to find Model 98 that surely has some stories to tell. Manufactured at the start of World War II, this Mauser 98 bears the "243" code over the "1940" date on the receiver ring, along with German Military inspection marks including "Eagle/swastika" and "eagle/26" proofs on the right of the receiver and barrel. Fitted with a smooth pistol grip stock with a flat steel buttplate.

The overall condition is very good. The bore is semi-bright with sharp rifling. Robust action. Numbers match on the receiver, breech, stock. The stock is good with cosmetic wear, but retains an attractive wood graining. Legible markings. Import marked “CAI”.
