Description:
1841 Mississippi - Colt Conversion Bayonet In 1861 Samual Colt purchased 10,000 1841 rifles and added saber bayonets. The rifle barrels, split rings, and bayonets were marked with a serial number.  Most were sold to the Federal Government, though Connecticut purchased a number of these altered 1841s.  Deliveries were completed by June 1862.  A split metal ring clamped on the barrel to provide a bayonet lug for this saber bayonet.  The bayonet has a 25-inch-long blade. This blade is marked 1862.  On the top of the grip is the serial number 9700 ". The blade is a grey color with scattered areas of light pitting.  The leather scabbard is full-length and has a brass button on the throat.  The leather is stable and in good condition. Still, it displays well
