Description:
Historical Forehand & Wadsworth
  • Founding & Origins
Forehand & Wadsworth was established in 1871 in Worcester, Massachusetts, by Sullivan Forehand and Henry C. Wadsworth, who had been partners in Ethan Allen & Company before Allen's death.
  • Product Line
They produced small, concealable pocket revolvers—primarily .32 and .38 rimfire, as well as larger calibers like .44 (e.g., a single-action army-style model). Often, these were double-action top-break designs, heavily influenced by Smith & Wesson revolvers of the time.
  • Model Variants & Nicknames
Some models acquired names like Terror, Bulldozer, or Swamp Angel, differing mainly in engraving, barrel shape, and aesthetics rather than internal mechanics.
  • Company Evolution
In 1890, Wadsworth retired, leading to a rebranding as Forehand Arms Company. Forehand continued until his death in 1898, and the company was absorbed by Hopkins & Allen by 1902.

  • Manufacturer:  Forehand & Wadsworth (Worcester, MA), ca. 1871–1890
  • Caliber & Configuration:   .32 rimfire, 6-shot solid-frame revolver, 2.5 barrel
  • Finish:   Nickel-plated, pocket-size, double-action mechanism
  • Serial Number #14220—likely mid to late 1880s production

Condition:  .32 rimfire,   6-shot, solid-frame, nickel-finished revolver with a 2.5? barrel. Very nice bore with very light spot pitting, Original grips are scratch numbered to the gun and in excellent condition.   serial #14220 indicates this pistol likely belongs to the mid- to late-1880s era of Forehand & Wadsworth production. The use of the F&W name rather than Forehand Arms indicates manufacture before 1890. Original nickel finish is in great condition for it's age showing light scratches and very minor wear , Mechanically works very good in single and double action , with nice timing , good lock-up with a tiny bit of cylinder play.  Pistol comes with a nice hand crafted case to display this excellent looking model

Serial numbers for F&W revolvers are not fully catalogued, but this model  is indeed a 19th-century F&W pocket model—a common yet well-crafted gun of its time.  A pristine example as “a Classic and highly collectable American pistol,” especially when matching-numbers, excellent finish, and original grips.
Owning a well-preserved example, such as the one described, provides a glimpse into the craftsmanship and innovation of the late 19th century firearms industry.   Overall, this F&W pistol is an excellent example of a rare and historically significant firearm from the late 19th century.   Don't miss your chance to own a piece of history
