Description:

This rifle is an original Simson & Co., Suhl small-bore training rifle chambered in .22 Long Rifle, serial number 118200, dating to approximately 1933–1935.
  • Markings: Clearly stamped “Waffenfabrik Simson & Co., Suhl” on the receiver, with Weimar-era proof marks. These markings confirm production before the company was seized from its Jewish owners in 1936 and renamed BSW under Nazi control.
  • Configuration: Full military-style stock patterned after the German service rifle, with finger grooves and iron sights designed to replicate the feel of a Gewehr 98/Kar 98k.
  • Condition: Bluing is approximately 95%, wood shows light handling marks but remains solid and unaltered. Bore is bright and strong.
Historical Significance
Simson & Co. was the only Jewish-owned arms manufacturer in Germany before WWII. The company was a major supplier of arms to the Reichswehr in the 1920s, including the Luger P08 pistol. In 1936, the Nazis forcibly expropriated the Simson family, stripping them of the business in one of the earliest examples of Aryanization.
This rifle is not just a fine example of German gunmaking—it is a tangible piece of history. As a late-production Simson W 625B, it represents one of the last firearms made under Jewish ownership before the Nazi takeover. Many of these rifles were either destroyed, re-marked, or heavily used in wartime training, making untouched Simson-marked examples increasingly scarce.
