CONDITION - EXCELLENT OVERALL CONDITION.
This Arrieta “Texas Star & Rose” .410, built in 1986, is a finely executed sidelock self-opener from one of Spain’s most respected makers, blending traditional Holland & Holland design with distinctive Texan-themed embellishment. It features 27.5" barrels chambered for 3" shells, choked improved cylinder and modified, with a hand-matted solid rib topped by a gold front bead. The gun weighs 5 lbs 14.6 oz, with dimensions of 1.5" drop at comb, 2" drop at heel, and a 15" length of pull to a leather-covered pad.
The coin-finished sidelock action is built on the Holland & Holland self-opening system and is adorned with extensive bouquet and scroll engraving. Unique gold inlays include a Texas star on the left lockplate, a Texas rose on the right, and a fleur-de-lis flanked by “A” and “C” in a circle on the triggerguard. The action features bushed firing pins, double triggers (the front articulated), ejectors, and a tang-mounted automatic safety.
Condition is excellent, with the barrels retaining virtually all of their original blue and the action retaining nearly all of its coin finish. Engraving remains crisp, showing only a small patch of spotting on the upper tang. The walnut is nicely figured, with multi-point checkering, carved teardrop drop points, a straight grip, and an initial oval. The forearm is finely checkered, fitted with engraved metalwork, and secured by an Anson push-button release. Wood shows only minor scattered dings and scratches, and the checkering is sharp.
Mechanically, the gun is excellent: bores are clear, ejectors are strong and in time, triggers are crisp, and the action functions flawlessly. Made with elegance, enhanced by gold details and Spanish craftsmanship, this is an extraordinary .410 sidelock self-opener that stands out both for its artistry and its handling.
