Description: Guns Listing ID: 557292 Base Rifle – Mosin–Nagant M1891 Origin: Designed in Imperial Russia in 1891. Caliber: 7.62x54R. Configuration: Long rifle with a 31.5\" barrel, full-length stock, straight bolt handle, and ladder rear sight. Production: Built by several arsenals — Tula, Izhevsk, Sestroretsk (Russia), and under contract by foreign makers like Remington and New England Westinghouse (USA). The “Finnish Capture" Story After Finland gained independence from Russia in 1917, it inherited huge numbers of Mosin rifles from the Russian Empire. During the Finnish Civil War (1918) and the later Winter War (1939–40) and Continuation War (1941–44), the Finns captured additional Mosins from Soviet forces. Instead of scrapping them, the Finns arsenal-refurbished and upgraded these rifles, sometimes mixing Russian receivers with Finnish barrels, stocks, or other parts. Identifying a Finnish Capture M1891 [SA] Stamp: Almost all Finnish-used rifles have a boxed “SA" (Suomen Armeija) mark, showing Finnish Army acceptance. Stock: May be an original Russian stock repaired with Finnish finger joints or splices, or an entirely Finnish-made stock with a distinctive “pistol grip" wrist. Barrel Bands & Hardware: Often a mix of Russian and Finnish styles. Serials: Finns didn’t care about matching numbers — many captures are mismatched but arsenal-correct.
