This AYA No. 2 sidelock, built in 1979, is one of the firm’s most admired game guns—a Spanish classic executed in the best London style. Constructed on Holland & Holland–pattern hand-detachable sidelocks, it incorporates double triggers, automatic safety, cocking indicators, and timed ejectors. The 28" barrels are chambered for 2.75" shells, choked improved cylinder (.007") and modified (.020"). The gun weighs 6 lbs 10 oz, with dimensions of 1.5" drop at comb, 2.25" drop at heel, and 14.75" length of pull. The sighting plane is a solid concave rib fitted with a silver front bead.
The action retains beautiful case coloring and is fully scroll engraved, signed “S” in gold on the safety. Lock-up is tight and on-face, with the triggers crisp and ejectors strong and in-time. Woodwork consists of an English straight-grip stock and splinter forend, both finely checkered and finished with a checkered butt. Walnut shows only light handling marks typical of use, and overall wood finish remains excellent.
Condition is very good, showing minimal wear consistent with age. Bores are bright and clear, the action is smooth, and the gun remains mechanically strong and field-ready.
The AYA No. 2 has long been regarded as one of the finest values in sidelock shotguns, built to London best standards with hand-detachable locks and classic balance.
