Description:
The Model of 1830 musket was originally commissioned for the Cadets of the West Point academy, with 307 made in total, 154 with a 36" barrel and 153 with a 40" barrel, all originally flintlocks with most converted to percussion over time. This example however, is in a very different configuration to its original design, it has been very thoroughly converted into a .69 Cal sporting arm, likely for fowling. To this extent, the barrel has been replaced with a non matching Springfield barrel, the stock has been shortened to a sporting style stock and a silver forend tip installed with an under rib for the ram rod keepers. Overall the conversion was done very well and was likely commissioned by one of the former Cadets who would have kept the musket as it was fazed out of use. The condition after nearly 200 years of life is quite good, with no major pitting to be found and no major faults in the stock aside from a chip near the forend tip, however the hammer installed in the percussion conversion has broken off and will need replacement.
