Description:
Savage Model 1907 U.S. Trials Pistol – .45 ACP
Serial #166 – 1 of Only 288 Produced
Offered here is an exceptional and exceedingly rare Savage Model 1907 U.S. Trials Pistol, chambered in .45 ACP. This pistol is serial number 166 of the original 288 manufactured for U.S. military trials.
The 1907 Trials, initiated by Brigadier General Crozier, sought a replacement for the Colt 1894 .38 revolvers after their shortcomings were revealed during the Philippine Insurrection. Savage 1907 pistols were issued to the 3rd, 6th, and 11th Cavalry for field testing and evaluation. After trials, the pistols were returned to Savage, factory refinished, and sold commercially through Tryon of Philadelphia.
  • Caliber: .45 ACP
  • Serial Number: 166 (of 288)
  • Markings: Slide retains full two-line Savage address; 1st pattern frame without “Safe / Fire” markings
  • Features: Case-colored trigger; original unnumbered magazine; mixed-numbered internal parts (typical of factory refinishing process, as all parts were interchangeable)
  • Condition: Extremely fine; retains over 95% of the Savage-applied finish; excellent bright bore; very fine checkered walnut grips with small interior crack on right panel; action operates properly
  • Historical Note: Mixed numbered parts are common among these pistols, as Savage did not attempt to match parts during the refinishing process
A very fine and historically important example of the Savage 1907 U.S. Trials pistol — notable for its crisp, legible markings and excellent overall preservation. Few examples of these rare pistols remain in such condition.
Rarely do true U.S. Trials pistols surface in this quality — serious collectors should act now. Call 478-337-1000 or click Buy It Now to secure this scarce piece of American military history.
