Description:
Excellent cased 1901 HJ Hussey, Ltd 12 gauge sidelock SxS shotgun. 28 inch barreled gun with 2 3/4 inch chambers in period case with label. S/N 14065, the 65th gun produced by the firm. Henry Hussey served as works manager for Holland and Holland prior to starting his own firm - the first of several partnerships involving the Hussey family. Gun built to late 19th Century H&H design. Gun weight is 6 pounds, 8 ounces - perfect field or clays weight, using modern 2 3/4 shells.
Barrels are full replacement barrels (not sleeved), 28 inches in length, built/proved in 1964. Original Birmingham proof at 3 Tons, followed by London ReProof in 2016 after chambers lengthened to 2 3/4 inches and proved for 1 1/4 ounce shells. Barrels choked .007 R and .015 L. Minimum Wall Thickness is .027 R and .030 L. Bores measure .732 R and .729 L at 9 inches from breech. Original stock/fore-end of striking rubbed oil finish French Walnut. Straight grip stock to checkered butt. Stock measurements are 14 1/2 in LOP, 1 7/16 in DAC, and 2 1/8 in DAH. Fore-end has Anson-style button release. Classic sidelock action with limited engraving. Double Triggers, Scott Spindle, and Purdey Double Bite. Third Fastener. Received Disassembly, Inspection and Cleaning 2023.
A turn of the century British sidelock that is ready to go, with 2 3/4 cartridges. Comes with Don Masters book Atkin, Grant and Lang, which includes chapters tracing the Hussey partnerships and family journey. This gun is a proven performer on both prairie grouse and pheasant.
