Description:
With About 64 caliber or 16 bore, and a 43 1/2” barrel with a moderately oxidized bore. The barrel is an overall soft plum brown patina showing some spots of more prominent oxidation about midway down its length, with British proofs at rear marked only “London” on the top flat. The lock is marked “T. Ketland & Co” and the arm was converted by drum and nipple method, all the attendant parts now a gray-brown patina with light oxidation. All of the furniture is brass and consists of a semi-ornate sideplate and simplistic triggerguard with finial front extension, simple buttplate and a Bess-like monogram plate atop the wrist. The English walnut buttstock rates about very good as refinished and repaired many years ago with deep comb flutes. The arm was repaired at various times does however appear as though the front and rear of the stock are original to each other. The lock will not hold at full cock and is able to drop on “half cock” and an antique dowel is included as ramrod. The snake side plate sometimes were Indian trade rifles too.The toe of the buttplate is quite proud and there is a bit of synthetic material in this area no doubt masking a chip.
