This is a fine National Arms Teat Fire Revolver in .32 Teat-Fire, manufactured by the National Arms Company in Brooklyn, New York, under Moore’s Patent. The serial number 28579 places production between 1864 and 1870, as National Arms produced approximately 30,000 of these revolvers during this period. Designed by Daniel Moore, the teat-fire cartridge system was a unique front-loading mechanism developed to circumvent Smith & Wesson’s Rollin White patent on bored-through cylinders, making it a significant innovation during the American Civil War era. This revolver, marked "Moore's Pat Firearms Co. Brooklyn, N.Y." on the barrel, was popular as a backup weapon for soldiers and civilians due to its compact size and reliability. Its historical significance lies in its role as a transitional firearm in the evolution of cartridge revolvers, bridging the gap between percussion and modern metallic cartridge designs.

This example is in fine condition, featuring a sharply engraved brass frame with traces of its original silver wash finish. The 3 1/4" barrel and cylinder retain their blue finish, with the hammer showcasing vibrant case colors. The two-piece varnished wood grips are well-preserved, and the early cartridge extractor on the right side is intact, adding to its authenticity. The bore is bright, and the revolver is mechanically fine, ensuring functionality for display or cautious use with appropriate reproduction ammunition. All markings are crisp and legible, enhancing its collectible appeal.

Safety Note: As an antique firearm, this revolver should be inspected by a qualified gunsmith before any attempt to fire, as teat-fire cartridges are obsolete and require specialized reproduction rounds.
