This is an extraordinary Fabrique Nationale (FN) Model B2C Superposed Shotgun in 12 gauge, crafted by FN Herstal in Belgium. The serial number 8H3RN06373 confirms production in 1979, as indicated by the “RN” date code in FN’s serialization. Designed by John M. Browning and completed by his son Val, the Superposed, introduced in 1931, was the first commercially successful over/under shotgun, renowned for its balance, reliability, and craftsmanship. The B2C grade, a high-end variant, features a French grey receiver adorned with intricate game scene engravings of Pheasants, Woodcock, and Quail, double-signed by master engravers Rosa Bee and Brigante. Rosa Bee, sister of renowned engraver Angelo Bee, was trained at FN/Browning in Belgium and later worked in Chatsworth, California, known for her tight scrollwork and detailed wildlife scenes. The identity of Brigante is less documented, but their collaboration suggests a high-end commission. Its historical significance lies in FN’s legacy of producing premium firearms, with this example likely intended for the European or specialty market.

This shotgun is in extremely fine condition, retaining 97% of its original blue finish on the 27 1/2" vent rib barrels, with bright bores indicating minimal use and excellent care. The oil-finished checkered walnut pistol grip stock, with a 15 1/4" LOP and 1 1/4" extension, is very fine, showing only light handling marks. The single selective trigger and automatic ejectors function flawlessly, and the Improved Cylinder chokes are ideal for upland game or sporting clays. Weighing approximately 7 lbs, this shotgun is well-balanced for field use. All markings, including the Rosa Bee & Brigante signatures, are crisp and legible, enhancing its collectible value.

Side note:
Rosa Bee, like her brother Angelo, was trained at FN/Browning in Belgium, a hub for high-quality firearms manufacturing and engraving. This training likely occurred under master engravers such as Felix Funken, as was the case for Angelo, who studied at the Beaux Arts de Liège to hone his artistic skills. Rosa’s European training equipped her with the skills to produce intricate engravings, focusing on traditional techniques using hammers and chisels.  Following Angelo’s immigration to the United States in 1975, sponsored by Frank Pachmayr, Rosa also relocated to Chatsworth, California, where both continued their engraving work. Rosa Bee signed her work as “R. BEE,” often found on the receiver or sideplates of firearms. This signature distinguishes her work from her brother’s, who typically signed “A. BEE” with a small flying bee symbol. Rosa was known for her fantastic scrollwork and detailed game scene engravings.
